====Installing the new bearings====

'''>>>Need to know a good method of pounding in the new race, as this is quite vague.>>>'''

Take the larger bearing race (#99-3503 - the race is the part without the pins) and use a 'race pounder' or a hammer and then a punch after.
'''>>>The following part is for installing the races on the steering head (the frame), correct?>>>'''

Take the larger bearing race (#99-3503 - the race is the part without the pins) and install it on the lower part of the steering head on the frame.

'''<<<Can you use the old 'correct-sized socket' for this? Lots of people don't have access to different sizes of pipe.>>>'''
Get a piece of pipe a teensy bit smaller on the outside diameter than the race but large enough so it cannot slip into the bearing surface of the race.  You want to apply pressure all around the edge of the race, without touching the inside of it.

If the pipe is wider than the hammer, put a flat piece of metal across the pipe, so the hammer blows are transmitted to all edges of the pipe equally.  A bearing/race driver (pounder) is essentially a fancy version of a hammer and pipe, purchased in various sizes for various sized bearings.  The above illustration is for the top race in the steering stem.  For the bottom race it would be like this:

Be very careful to hit only the outside of the race. If you so much as lightly tap the punch on the inside of the race, it could ruin it. Install it in the bottom section of the frame.
