Economy rear stands (a totally biased review)
A lot of people either can't afford to or don't want to spend the money on a Pit Bull stand. I can sympathize, but when it comes to tools I cannot agree. Recently I had the opportunity to pick up an "economy" rear stand for literally a song, so I figured at the very least I'd have something to post a comparison about.
The rear stand is a PSR (Power Stands Racing) and can be had for about $55 plus shipping from [http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/track_garage/motorcycle_stands__lifts/psr/econo_rear_spool_stand.html MotorcycleGear.com]. It only comes with the spool attachment, so if you have a bike like the EX250F that doesn't have spools, add the swingarm flat lifters for an extra $15. With shipping, this stand is $85.
The Pit Bull SS Rear Motorcycle Stand comes with spool and paddle attachments for $145 from [http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=34 Sportbike Track Gear].
First impressions of the PSR were that it seemed to be of OK quality. The stand ships disassembled, and online reviews were very clear that the stand should be bolted together TIGHT or the arms would shift under load. Upon assembling it, I was disappointed at the fit, as you will see in the pics. Really, I am not impressed, but it might be because I have my PB stands against which to compare and pass judgment. They feel somewhat solid, and I can see how they may offer someone with zero experience to feel secure in the knowledge that they got a good stand. That being said, my overall impression is that I'm glad I got my PitBulls. And if both had been in the store at the time I bought mine, I would still make the same decision. On the plus side, they have small protector strips to keep the finish from getting marred on the floor, which the PitBull does not.
Still, I have access to a welder, and someone who has professional welding skills. I'm going to strip the paint (doesn't seem like powder coat IMO) from the male end and around the edge of the female ends and weld the legs together. I may also cut a lengthwise slit to increase the welded area, depending on if my guy recommends it. I'll post follow up pics after that's done.
The OD (in inches) of tubing measures at: PSR - 11/16, PitBull - 15/16
